If your middle school daughter loves purple, then a purple messenger bag is a great back to school choice.  Tween school bags can be a lot of fun, but a tween's use of their school bag can be a huge help in keeping academics on track.  When student grades slip, one area for parents to consider is the middle school student's organization, or lack of it.  A tween backpack can be a disaster, and while a messenger bag won't automatically solve that, it can help, being just a bit more conducive to a filing approach to putting away materials and books.  Tweens need a lot of help in establishing routine, and for parents, there is a lot of patience required in the process.  You may as well make sure that your middle schooler loves her school bag, so that she wants to keep it nice!

Organizational Help for Middle School Tweens

If your tween is having some challenges with grades, take time, together, to review his or her organizational skills.  Take stock of the school bag, and you will probably have a good insight into whether this is an academic problem.  Many tweens just shove their materials into their school bags, sling the backpack over their shoulders, and head to the next class.  Lost papers?  Forgotten assignment?  No surprise, if the book bag is a disaster.

The following articles broach the issue of organization issues with the tween school bag:

Tweens and School Bags: The Abyss!

Have you ever taken a good look in the school bag of your tween?  The organizational abilities of most tweens seem to be seriously lacking, and having taught and parented this unique age range, I can honestly say that my first instinct when a tween is falling behind in school is to check out that tween school bag.  If there are a multitude of crumpled papers, pencil pieces, and who knows what else, you can just about bet that the organizational style of your tween is impacting grades and school performance.

You can work on those organizational skills, but picking out an organizable school bag or backpack can help your tween.  The tool won't solve the problem, of course, as a tool is only as good as its operator. This blog is dedicated to providing some helpful tips to the parent of tweens, in terms of selecting, and organizing, a good school bag.
